Phil Spector is expected to be sentenced to anywhere from 18 years to life imprisonment for the crime of which he is now convicted. But even should he be given the minimum sentence, chance are he'll die of old age while in jail. Ok, it'll be a burden for the taxpayer, but it will serve to mean that justice has been done.So now to the details of actual crime itself, for those of you who may not already know.
We know from what the court was told that on 3rd February 2003, Phil Spector had been drinking in a bar when he met Lana Clarkson and they got to talking. They also continued drinking together and later on, bith ended up back at Spector's rather eccentric castle style mansion, which is in the Los Angeles suburb of Alhambra .
At Spectors home, they are alleged to have continued drinking and at some point Spector made sexual advances towards Clarkson. Unfortunately, those advances were spuned, whereupon Spector produced a gun. In a fit of temper and anger, he shot her in the mouth.
In an attempt to cover his tracks, Phil Spector made an attempt at cleaning up the crime scene and later told police that she had committed suicide. He said this was broght about by her being depressed at poor state of her acting career.
It may come as no surprise that the jury in the case were not impressed by this fabrication and convicted the defendant of murder in the second degree. A lesser charge of discharging a firearm similarly brought a guilty verdict.
So now, the former musical guru and creator of countless popular music artists awaits his fate, which is that of possibly spending the rest of his life behind bars.
